Whole-Home Conditioning vs Point-of-Use RO, Which One Actually Matters in a Nexton Build?

Nexton homes get about 7.2 grains per gallon of hardness with chlorine disinfection. Why a whole-home conditioner and a kitchen-tap reverse osmosis unit are two different jobs.

If you live in a Nexton new-build and you're researching water treatment, here's the honest pairing I recommend most often: a whole-home conditioner at the point of entry plus a point-of-use reverse osmosis unit under the kitchen sink.

Why two systems instead of one

A whole-home conditioner (POE) treats every tap in your house. It addresses hardness, chlorine taste, and aesthetic concerns across showers, laundry, and dishwashers. The Puronics Hydronex iGen C whole-home conditioner is WQA-tested and is not currently NSF listed for contaminant reduction as of April 2026.

A point-of-use RO (POU) treats only the drinking-water tap. The Puronics Pur-Alkaline 6-stage reverse-osmosis system is the unit Pristine installs at the kitchen tap. If you have specific contaminant concerns at the drinking-water level, this is the cert-matched path, the exact certification scope for the recommended model is provided in writing before install. Verify any listing at info.nsf.org.

What the whole-home doesn't do

The Puronics Hydronex iGen C whole-home is not currently NSF listed for specific contaminant reduction. I won't claim it addresses lead, chromium-6, or other regulated contaminants at the parts-per-billion level. That's a POU conversation with cert-specific answers.

Nexton-specific context

Nexton is served by Summerville CPW at roughly 7.2 gpg hardness with chlorine disinfection. Your 2018 or newer Brookfield/Pulte/Lennar build likely has a garage-wall shutoff, which means a clean indoor install with no trenching.
